Nathan Post was walking way to close to the edge of a cornice. In doing so, the cornice collapses within inches of his boot tracks, triggering a very significant avalanche. Hopefully, you can learn from this extremely close call. In other words, do not walk on a cornice or look over the edge of a cornice unless you are properly secured, even after part of it breaks away. Unless you're standing on rock, its still possible for more of the cornice to come loose. It goes without saying, but be smart and stay safe in your backcountry skiing or boarding adventures.
